The decision about whether to ship by air or sea is determined predominately by the “need for speed”, the logistical requirements of the importing country and the animal welfare requirements of high value stud and breeder livestock.
Where sea freight can take multiples of days or weeks, air freight can be completed in hours resulting in far less risk and stress particularly for pregnant livestock.
The movement of smaller numbers and with greater regularity is able to be achieved, as is the ability to closely monitor the animals throughout the transport process.
Aircraft ventilation systems can be tailored to the individual needs of the type of animal and the hold temperatures monitored throughout the voyage.
